What Fuels Your ‘I Want More?’

Everyone wants more from life. You want the best life has to offer, and everything ‘more’ means in its entirety. The question, however, is what fuels your ‘I want more?’

The Grammy award-winning singer, Burna Boy said, “If you don’t make it, there’s no evidence that you tried your best.”

You can’t tell me you haven’t seen it, or at least used the line in one of your conversations. Even though you aren’t entirely sure what Burna Boy meant by ‘Make it,’ you, just like the others, have concluded that he was talking only about wealth.

How do you measure success? What does it mean to you? Is success money, or is money the only noteworthy part of success?

While you’re busy trying to answer, there’s something else you should look at. Rumour has it that it is as important as the first quote.

The wisest man in the world said something about success that is equally as important as the first quote you read.

He said, “I have seen something else under the sun: The race is not to the swift, or the battle to the strong, nor does food come to the wise, or wealth to the brilliant, or favour to the learned, but time and chance happen to them all.”

Why is success so much of a controversy?

You will hear consistency is key, learning high-income skills will hasten the pace of your success, and some might tell you it’s hard work. Others will say you should scratch the hard away and replace it with ‘smart.’

You are chasing the bag. You keep on chasing the bag, and when you hit a breaking point, you get disappointed. You begin to get depressed. For some of you, that’s the moment you are in right now.

You see, athletes have a finish line to look out for, and footballers have a duration that they play.

But with success, you can’t tell when it’ll come. So, after a while of chasing without any results, you slowly begin to drown in the bad habit of comparing yourself with others.

Comparison is the thief of joy. There’re a lot of things you don’t pray for; one of them is poverty. Have you ever seen a needy person smile?

It was different while you were a kid, but now that you’re grown, you must have acquainted yourself with the complications that accompany this thing called adulthood.

You can’t tell someone who is hungry that food isn’t everything. Foolish, right? But isn’t it the same as telling someone who is already grumpy from waiting that they should wait some more?

Do you now see why it is easier to fall into the trap of comparison than it is to believe someone who says, the patient dog eats the fattest bone?

You live in a world so fast-paced, it is easy for you to forget that you are not the same person you were three years ago. You’re growing! Cut yourself some slack.

Mindset is everything. The moment you catch yourself saying ‘My mates have done…’ you’re losing the war. The only person you should compare yourself with is you.

You must guard your joy. Guard it jealously.

Always remember, you have a different journey from the person you’re comparing yourself to. Although the destination is the same, you have a different path there.

When you continuously compare, you give the trickster room to suggest ‘customised shortcuts’ that delays you even further.

It’s okay to be human. You can get sad when you see things moving well for others, not necessarily because you hate them, or envy them, but simply because you wanted that too.

That’s fine, but for someone who is running, the comparison cafe isn’t a good place to wait and grab a drink. Stop fuelling your ambitions by what people are getting, or by what they got.

It should be fuelled by a better set of values. That is the only time success brings peace with its satisfaction, and not a contest to keep showing others who’s boss.

  1. Really Insightful.
Although i do believe comparison is a fundamental part of being a human being.

When we urge ourselves or others to cease making comparisons, we might inadvertently be creating a barrier between us and the truth of the situation.

  2. Hello there! I know this is kind of off topic but I was wondering if you
knew where I could find a captcha plugin for
my comment form? I’m using the same blog platform as yours and I’m
having difficulty finding one? Thanks a lot!

    1. Hey, there.

I’m just someone who loves to write and help people with good advice. Sadly, I’m not really a tech pro.

However, I could link you up with our developer, I don’t if that’s okay.

Just send us an email and I will forward it across. Cool?
