I didn’t write this to puncture your faith, spoil your cruise, spread negativity, or even dash your hopes. I am on your side, so I simply ask that you listen [read] and don’t judge a blog post by its cover.
Every year, Nigerians have made it a thing now to have a theme. It starts with a trend, an anthem that fits the mood of a relatable few. That relatable few soon grows because, let’s face it, if there’s one thing Nigerians love more than roasting Ghana, it is hope.
We live for it. It is camouflaged as faith from our churches, as patriotism from our government, and as motivation for our hustle. It’s a perpetual cycle that you keep spinning without stopping to ask yourself, is hope enough to achieve the things I want?
You’ve read this far, so let me ask you. Do you think joy is really coming?
Remind me what the anthem for 2024 was. ‘No gree for anybody,’ right? There’s always a mood in the air, and if you’re discerning enough, you can catch it, analyse it, and pick a lesson to share from it.
I have one for you today.
It made sense to say joy is coming this year because ‘T-pain’ did you detty. However, now that you somehow managed to survive 2024, what are you going to do differently? It is not enough to hope.
Spryo and Fido won’t help you; it’s up to you. Clearly, you want joy, you want some sort of compensation for the struggling and the toil. You want some sort of clarity for the uncertainty. You want freedom because life feels like part two of The Squid Game and you are tired of playing. You want out.
Don’t get me wrong; when I say you want out, I don’t mean you want to rest in peace. I simply mean you want better. You want results, wealth, happiness, and some sort of peace—the type that comes with finally being able to catch the bag you’ve been chasing.
In between, that bag sabi run.
Honestly, I get it that it is in its function to arouse excitement, happiness, relaxation, and in this context, joy; Afrobeats has done its part, but let this blog post be the rhythm of consciousness you need to dance to today.
Just like the original founder of the genre, Fela, it’s time you connect to the roots and start understanding that feelings are always going to change, but reality is a force that, if not moved by you, remains the same.
Remember the lyrics of the song: “Joy is coming, very early in the morning.” At least he was kind enough to tell you who is coming, and when. However, he didn’t tell you how.
Truth be told, I’m not here to analyse lyrics. I’m here to tell you to wake up because you’ve been sleeping on yourself.
You need to start planning.
Start putting plans in place. Set goals, mean them this time, and do it for you because you are all you’ve got.
Hope is not a strategy, and as your online bestie, I don’t want you to live 2025 on vibes [again]. If you ask around, you will find that the happiness you are chorusing comes from within.
If you practice contentment, draft and follow a clear plan, and achieve it, you will feel a genuine dopamine rush that comes with the assurance that indeed you are going somewhere, and very soon, you’ll get there.
That way, joy will truly be on her way, coming to you, with results you can brag about. If not…
You go explain, explain tire. No evidence.
This will be your [and our] year. Can I get an Amen with a like, share, and anything to help this post reach more people?
Thank you this and not allowing me to live on vibes [again] this year
“….Set goals, mean them this time, and do it for you because you are all you’ve got…”
This piece is soooo apt! Time to put in the work, thank you for this timely piece our favorite online besty😁🥰.
I agree with the content of this post. One of the lines people ought to hold on to is this: “Wake up because you’ve been sleeping on yourself.”
Thank you for this online piece. At the end one needs to put in hard work
First of all, Joy must come . I definitely need that hope right now. I get the gist, joy will come when we put in the work. You are an exceptional writer, well done Inny
I’ve always heard ‘praise’ gets along well with ‘faith.’
Joy will come, besty. Thank you for stopping by.
