Sexual assault, Abuse, and Attempted suicide. (A true story)

MEET THE GUEST:

Gissel Morales Pennick is an Afro-Latina engineer from the Dominican Republic currently living in the U.S.

I started a campaign in 2020 about the importance of mental health. I shared thoughts on my Instagram story and was about to have one of my webinars when we first established contact online.

We got talking and she shared her story with me via this interview that was first recorded on my then volunteer podcast channel (Traca Radio). We sometimes take serious issues like mental health for granted and I think that Africans need to know when to leave toxic situations, environments, and even partners that constitute a nuisance to our peace.

It was a privilege to see that this problem wasn’t restricted by continents, and is also a prevailing issue in the world at large. Although we cannot say we are handling it the best way possible, maybe in this story, you will find some inspiration.

What was life like for a girl like you? (1:00) How did you overcome everything? (7:00) What advice do you have for millennials as they suffer this problem the most? (12:30) What’s next for you? (15:00)
